About the Centre
The Bog Visitor Centre is one of few remnants of a once bustling mining village, the former school sits in the shadow of the Stiperstones in Shropshire. Over 150 years old the Victorian building now provides a service to visitors and locals to the area. Within the Shropshire Hills AONB the centre is part of a network of destinations for tourists to explore in this still quiet corner of England. Views Westwards cross the border into Wales, with some peaks of the Snowdonia National Park visible on clear days. For more details on the history of the centre and area, please visit the ‘History & Information’ page.
The centre is staffed by local helpers who are always happy to share their knowledge of the area and help you discover what this dramatic landscape has to offer. A warm welcome is always received, light refreshments are available predominantly of the ‘tea and cake’ variety; more details can be found on the ‘Refreshments’ page. We also sell a range of local craft items, see more details about the items on offer please visit the 'Craft Stalls' page. We close for the winter, our opening season usually runs from March to November. Free WIFI is available inside, we have toilets with disabled and baby changing facilities and dogs on leads are always welcome!
We ask that large groups refrain from visiting our centre unless we are aware of the visit in plenty of time, even then we may refuse your visit as we are only a small centre with limited staff numbers.
Groups of 12 or more wanting refreshments please give at least 5 days notice ahead of your visit and please be advised that our limited staff and facilities means it will be difficult to attend to you. Other visitors to the centre will be our priority and you must be patient and understanding with staff if you choose to visit.
